Who we are
Mira is run by [Company name], a company registered in England and Wales (number [number]), [registered address]. We are the controller of your personal data. Contact us at support@mira.app [confirm address].
What we collect
| What | Examples |
|---|---|
| Account | The email, or Apple or Google sign-in, you use to create your account. |
| Profile and preferences | First name, date of birth, gender, who you're interested in, the age range you want, your area (rounded to about 1km) and how far you'll travel. |
| What you tell Mira | Your chat with Mira, and the profile she writes from it. |
| Photos and selfie | Profile photos, and a selfie used once to check your photos are you. We delete the selfie as soon as it's been checked. |
| Age check | A selfie video that our partner Didit uses to check you're a real person and estimate your age, and a photo of your ID only if you look under 25. We keep only the result (confirmed, being checked or not confirmed). |
| How you use Mira | Intros and your yes or pass (and any reason you give), photos you swipe on the taste deck, requests, chats with your matches, and date feedback. |
| Safety | Reports and blocks, and the results of automatic safety checks on messages, request notes, photos and profiles. |
| Device | A push notification token for each device, and which platform it is. |
Sensitive information
Who you're interested in reveals your sexual orientation, and you may tell Mira other sensitive things, such as your religion or health. The law calls this special category data. We only use it with your explicit consent, which we ask for separately when you join. Mira can't match you without it, so you withdraw consent by deleting your account. Mira never asks about race, ethnicity, religion, health or immigration status.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To provide Mira (contract): building your profile, matching, intros, chat, check-ins and notifications.
- Sensitive information (explicit consent): to match you with people you're interested in and who are interested in you.
- To keep members safe (legitimate interests, and preventing unlawful acts): checking messages, notes, photos and profiles for scams, abuse, explicit content and people who may be under 18; reviewing reports; banning people who break the rules.
- To make matching better (legitimate interests): learning from your decisions and feedback which matches suit you.
- Checking your age (legal obligation under the Online Safety Act 2023, and legitimate interests in keeping under-18s off Mira): the age check when you join. [Solicitor to confirm the basis, and whether matching your face to your ID needs explicit consent as biometric data.]
- When the law requires it (legal obligation): for example, a lawful request from the police.
How matching works
Mira uses AI to read your profile and other members' profiles and estimate how well each pair fits, in both directions. You're only introduced when the fit is good both ways. She also learns your type from the photos you swipe on and from your yes and pass decisions, and nudges matches towards it. The AI systems are TypeSafe's Jev and Anthropic's Claude.
Who you're introduced to is decided automatically. You can ask us to explain why you were or weren't shown someone, and to have a person review it, by emailing us.
Safety decisions. If an automatic check thinks a message is a scam, abusive or explicit, it's held back and a person reviews it. Photos can also be held for review. Bans are always decided by a person.
Mira's check-ins
To keep you posted, Mira looks at your activity and sends check-ins: who's new nearby, how her search is going, someone waiting on your reply, or an intro about to close. To ask "how did it go?" at the right time, she may use an automatic check on the latest messages in a chat with a match to see whether you've met. A person never reads these unless the chat is reported or flagged. You choose how often she checks in under Profile, and you can turn notifications off in your phone's settings.
Who we share it with
Other members see your profile and photos when you're introduced or in Browse. They see your first name, age, rough distance and area, never your exact location.
Service providers process data for us under contract, only on our instructions:
- Clerk: sign-in [location]
- Anthropic: AI for chat, profile writing and matching (United States)
- TypeSafe: AI for matching, photo checks and safety checks [location]
- Didit: age checks (European Union)
- Railway: hosting and database [region]
- [Storage provider]: photo storage [region]
- Expo, Apple and Google: delivering push notifications
We never sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
International transfers
Some providers are in the United States. Where data leaves the UK, we rely on the UK–US data bridge or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to protect it. [Confirm per provider.]
How long we keep it
- Your account and everything in it, including your chat with Mira, for as long as your account is open.
- When you delete your account, we delete your data and photos straight away. Backups roll off within [30] days.
- Selfies are deleted as soon as they've been checked.
- Didit keeps your age-check selfie and any ID until you delete your account, when we ask Didit to erase them. [Confirm Didit's own retention in our contract with them.]
- [If you keep a minimal record of banned accounts to stop them rejoining, say what it is and for how long.]
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, and ask for a copy in a portable format. Delete your account from Profile in the app, and email us for anything else. We'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Age
Mira is for adults only. You must be 18 or over to use it, and we check every member's age when they join. If you think someone on Mira is under 18, report them from their profile or chat.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and access is limited to the people who need it. Selfies are deleted once checked, and your exact location is never stored.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll ask you to review it in the app before you carry on.
